The new pupil book for SVS and Enterprise, "Excellence in Enterprise and Social and Vocational Skills", is now available from Hodder Gibson publishers.
Just look at these comments from the 2008 HMIE report on ‘Improving Enterprise in Education’ – and see why this book could provide your solution for Enterprise Education…
“The Standard Grade course in Social and Vocational Skills (SVS) …provided a programme… which embodied much of the spirit of enterprise in education. Pupils … enjoyed a well-planned, coherent experience, receiving recognition for their achievements in work experience, entrepreneurial activities and social enterprises such as organising community events. These structured experiences had a significant impact on pupils’ motivation and achievements. They provided an important source of ideas and approaches for schools engaging with the current curriculum reforms. The programme provided a very valuable context and set of experiences to develop pupils as effective contributors, and to sample the world of work as a vehicle for career education.”
Excellence in Enterprise and Social & Vocational Skills - Pupil book now available!
This new text offers a full-colour, tailor-made approach for Standard Grade SVS – and a great deal more besides, with an enormous range of instruction and accompanying activities designed to prepare students for the entrepreneurial and vocational opportunities inherent in A Curriculum for Excellence and the Determined to Succeed programme. Additionally, much of the material is invaluable as a resource for Personal Development Units as well as Personal and Social Education.
A photocopiable resource pack for teachers will also be available in August. This collection of support materials will help teachers make the most of the pupil book in the classroom and enhance learning.
If you’ve not already got an inspection copy, order one now – or just order a class set at the discount prices from this order form, and order the resource pack at the same time!
During discussions with SAEPSVS members at last year's conference, one of the most frequently-voiced suggestions for how we could improve the website was adding a forum page. Members felt that it would be useful to have a way to put questions and requests for ideas to other members, or to share their own ideas.
It's taken us a while to work out a way to do this, but now, just in time for this year's conference, we've added a new forum page. Click here to go to the forum page.

When students are working at Credit level then letter writing can be accepted in a number of different formats provided that it has an address, either to the left or to the right, a postcode and a date. A business address can go under the first address either to the left or to the right. As long as it is clear and as long as it makes sense, the pupil will get the marks. At Credit level the pupil must also get the salutation and close correct to get the marks and it does not matter whether they use "Yours sincerely" or "Yours faithfully".
